This 2007 Audi B7 RS4 (VIN #WUARU98E67N904113) is being offered for sale. It is one of the 1,789 B7 RS4s sedans produced for the US and one of 291 that is Avus SilverThe car currently has about 123,900 miles. The car is located in Burlingame, California, which is just minutes from SFO airport. I plan to auction the car on bringatrailer.com.

I’ve loved Audis since long before they were admired for their design (and performance). My first two cars out of college were 1990 Audi Coupe Quattros, the second of which I owned for almost 11 years. Since then, I’ve had an 2001 BMW S54 M Coupe, 1994 Mercedes E500, and 1988 E28 M5. The RS4 is a special combination of normally aspirated V8 power mated to a manual transmission. Aside from my ’94 E500, every other car I’ve ever owned ONLY came with a manual transmission. I sold my 1988 E28 M5 on bringatrailer.com, which I think did very well.

History:

  • The car was originally sold and serviced by Niello Audi in Sacramento. The car was returned to Niello and I purchased it from them in December 2010. The car was Certified Pre-Owned and thus had an extended warranty through 75K miles.
  • All of the service records (redacted) were included with the car and are posted here.

This is one of the few cars I have actually purchased in person. Most have been sight unseen either on eBay or from out-of-state dealers. Below are chronological links to over 40 blog posts, which document virtually every service record and maintenance item performed, including hundreds of photos. Some of the photos have captions to provide more context. I’m also providing a detailed listing of over $12,000 in parts purchased and over $5,000 in service performed during my ownership. A lot of the work was completed by me, as chronicled on the blog. The hundreds of hours and specialty tools are worth many thousands of additional service invested in maintaining this special car.

The current clean CARFAX can be viewed here.

I believe almost all questions would be answered herein, but I’ll provide some highlights and lowlights here.

Highlights:

  • The car has been meticulously maintained, with every scheduled maintenance through 85K performed and documented by the dealership.
  • Since that time, every other maintenance and repair has been documented here, with receipts for parts and labor, as well as photos documenting the process.
  • The body is very straight, with only one or two very small dings. The car has never been in an accident nor has there been any paintwork during my ownership.
  • The car is very stock, aside from the JH Motorsports front rotors, the Hawk pads, and the aux-in modification. Otherwise, I’ve tried to use genuine Audi parts everywhere, down to the last screw.
  • The car has had three carbon cleanings. Here is a time-lapse and photos of the second, which I performed. Here are photos of the third, which was just 2,250 miles ago. An oil change with LiquiMoly Top-Tec was also performed at this time.
  • In the spirit of selling with virtually no deferred maintenance, a new battery was installed and the front cv axles and front upper control arms were replaced essentially 0 miles ago. Both front and rear brake pads appear to have a lot of life left in them. Perhaps the rear rotors could be replaced, but I was waiting for the rear pads to wear out and do them at the same time. The front rotors look fine to me.
  • Car comes with rubber Audi floor mats (never used) as well as carpeted floor mats.
  • Car is hard-wired for a Valentine V1 radar detector (RJ11), which allows for mounting on the passenger side of the rear view mirror.

Lowlights:

  • Although they would not admit it, I told the selling dealer I believed the hood had been repainted. The color looks fine, but the clear coat doesn’t have the same finish as the rest of the car. The front quarter panels look original also does every other panel on the car.
  • Despite the above defect, the car came with a clear bra on the front of the hood and quarter panels. The lights are also covered, but the protective film is oxidized. I’ve left it that way to keep the lights protected. I believe they are perfect underneath.
  • The lower front bumper has some curb/parking damage.
  • The rear bumper has some scratches and imperfections from parking.
  • The interior is in overall great condition. However, my wife (about to throw her under the bus here) received a Mother’s Day craft from my son (possibly his fault?!?). She left it on the passenger seat without knowing what it was. It turned out it was a paraffin wax candle, which proceeded to melt onto the seat. She felt terrible. I felt TERRIBLE. My son was five and had no clue. It might be possible to remove it with some professional help and/or elbow grease. There are photos of this damage.
  • All of the wheels have some degree of curb rash, the most being the the right rear and the least being the left front).
